North Shore NEMBA August 19th, 2007 meeting - minutes

Treasurer’s Report:

• Ron did not attend but reports “we have money”

Trail Days:

• Dan still plans two days in the fall (Sat Sept 15^th and Sun Oct 14^th) but locations are not definite yet

-         Maybe bridge or reroute around mudbogs in western Harold Parker forest, before the Wicked Ride in October

• See schedule on website (http://www.nsnemba.org/TrailWork.htm ) for up-to-date Trail Days dates and details
• Sept 5^th – IMBA trail crew to evaluate Jenkins Pit area, an area the park superintendent is concerned about
• Dan flagged a new trail for Essex County Greenbelt near Willowdale

Blazing at Harold Parker:

• DCR continues to want HP trail signage
• Dan developed a proposed blazing and numbering system, and asked for feedback

-         Dan noted the state wants all intersections and gates numbered, and would like signs to indicate what the average person could ride

-         Dan’s proposal shows intersections numbers and two main blazed trails (yellow is primarily singletrack, blue is primarily doubletrack), and two connector trails (in orange)

1.      some of the yellow blazes exist already

2.      Bay Circuit trail sections already have their own signage

-         Lee mentioned the signs at Bradbury State Park in Maine put laminated maps under plexiglass on a 4 x 4 post; makes it easy to see where you are

-         Dan suggested directional signs – telling you whether you are inbound or outbound

-         Joe – doesn’t like numbered intersections, they don’t tell you where to go to get to next trail

-         Dan liked Bradbury design; Kirk asked if state would allow us to create our own design, or whether we have to use theirs?

-         Park maps will have to be reprinted once the new signs are made

Wicked Ride:

• Food for WR

-         Food should be ready by 1 pm

-         Lee planning on 3 pots of chili, expects it to cost about $75

-         Discussion about having Jamie ? also bring his barbecue

1.      all fees for his food go to American Cancer Society

• Frank – what to do with proceeds from WR?

-         Currently goes to DCR general fund; concern about where that money is spent

-         Distribute some to Greenbelt or Trustees of Reservations, or find some way to address a specific Harold Parker need?

-         Dan – even if money goes to HP, the chapter should consider making a donation to Greenbelt or Trustees from our general fund

REI day in Reading Oct 13

• Frank will man a booth for NEMBA there

Board of Directors Meeting:

• Philip pushing Squares (in last Singletracks) for membership sign-up
• Access raffle – will fund trailbuilding tools – not too many entries yet
• Mt A chapter is dissolving, may merge with Maine chapter
• Summit at Highland Park was cancelled, will replace with something next spring, probably at Bear Brook

• Philip would like to promote repair clinics with bike shops

Thursday Night Ride Series:

• Need a moderate paced ride to go with this; either same time or (i.e.) on Saturdays

-         Dan suggests Willowdale for a mellow ride

• DCR is sponsoring a family ride at HP

Kingdom Trails ride

• Dan planning on 3^rd weekend in September if anyone interested, need to reserve camping sites

November 11^th meeting – probably will be held at Frank’s house in Byfield

• Elections for officers
