Giving and taking:
It seems like we have been doing a lot of taking on the north shore this
winter season. We have been taking the 70-degree days in January.
We have been taking the bone-dry days and great weekend weather.
How about full moon night rides in the midwinter with T-shirts and
shorts? Many have been taking advantage of the many new trails
created by our chapter this past year. Some of us may even be
taking advantage of our good-natured families as we head out on "another
mountain bike ride".
Many of our chapter members have been doing plenty of giving back.
There have been many trail days that have been well attended.
People that have lead rides that help others to enjoy and learn the many
trails of our area. How about folks that plan the new trails, and
then get approval from land managers for the work? As we move into
2007, please try to give some of your time back to the sport that we all
enjoy.
The final chapter meeting of the year was a fine sunny day in December.
Sixteen members attended the ride at Bradley Palmer State Park and
Willowdale State Forest followed by a cookout. The meeting was an
important one as we held elections for the chapter.
Voted in for the 2007 year were:
President: Frank Lane
Vice President: Fred White
Secretary: Jim Humphrey
Treasurer: Ron Corporon
Board of Directors Members:
Dan Streeter
Frank Lane
The group discussed plans for the up coming year including adding more
skill levels to the ride schedule and trail projects for the spring.
For more details please check the chapter web site.
Each year my employer gets together with the local DSS to help provide
Christmas presents for young people that may not receive gifts
otherwise. The names and the gift desired of about fifty kids anr
placed on post cards and hung on the board. Most want I-Pods and
electronics, many want jewelry or gift cards. Only one young man
requested a new bike. Thanks to the North Shore Chapter and The
Bicycle Shop of Topsfield, a new yellow Giant bike is being ridden by
one of our future members.

It's up to you!
