Tompson Reservation - June 2, 2007 - National
Trails Day
We had a very
large turnout for our National Trails Day event at Tompson
Reservation in Gloucester, MA. This event was held in
cooperation with the land owner,
Essex County Greenbelt Association, as well as
Essex
County Velo,
Dieselbikes, and Bruce "The Firefighter" Linehan of the
infamous Bruce & Tom's Excellent Adventure. We also
had around a dozen volunteers from the
Waring School. Much thanks go to Greenbelt Asst.
Land Stewardship Director Kate Walton for organizing this
great project and assembling a large and varied group of
workers.
Sinister Bikes, Reef, &
Nixon were kind enough to provide some swag for this event.
As usual, this event is part of
the 2007
Merlin / NEMBA Trail Care Series, providing all
participants the chance to win a Merlin frame.
The work for the day included two significant reroutes
and a new boardwalk. One of the reroutes was due to a
badly eroded fall-line trail. The other reroute moved the
trail from a low, wet area onto some higher ground.
The new boardwalk was built across an intermittent stream.
It was a long day of work with much accomplished. After a
great lunch provided by ECGA in the parking lot, a bunch of
us still managed to find some energy for short ride through
Tompson Reservation and then onto the B&T's Excellent
Adventure.
